La vie moderne Paris 1925-1937 : Les collections du Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris

2005-2006

World expositions, or world’s fairs, have played significant roles in the evolution of new technologies, art and lifestyles. The world expos held in Paris during the early years of the 20th century were particularly salient demonstrations of contemporary transformations and developments. This exhibition presented the esprit of modern Paris through works by the École de Paris (School of Paris) artists, and examples of Art Deco furniture, both of which were born at a time when Paris was growing and prospering as an expo host city.

A core part of the holdings of the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, established in 1961, is the works exhibited in the Exposition Internationale des Arts et Techniques dans la Vie Moderne held in Paris in 1937. Drawn primarily from the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris and other distinguished French collections, this exhibition presented the essence of French aesthetics, where the traditional and the new meet.
